" The worst book Clancy has ever written. Pretty good overall, but it takes a long time to do anything interesting. Still plausible, still technically good, and still worth the read.

THE BEAR AND THE DRAGON AUDIOBOOK UNABRIDGED SERIES

" The Jack Ryan series finds itself with a new generation. " Another great one from Tom Clancy and the narration really added to the suspense. " I have always been enthralled by Clancy's works and this novel kept me rapt, so that has not changed. Recomended to read during long winter evenings. " Tom Clancy, a new CIA analyst named Jack Ryan and a plot to kill the pope, what's not to grab your attention. " Much like The Bear and The Dragon, this was not up to par with the rest of the Jack Ryan series, however I did enjoy the double climax and the fact that the book concluded shortly after the climax. " Bit of a snoozer - For Clancy, that is. I'd agree that this is not one of Tom Clancy's absolute best, but ultimately I enjoyed this and am glad I read it. " Starting development chapters are very slow with a lot of redundant ideas and scenarios. Clancy's Jack Ryan character is featured again in a well-written and entertaining story. " A novel based around the attempted assassination of the pope several years ago. I thought I would hate going back in time with Jack Ryan, but I actually am enjoying getting more back-story into Ryan, the Foley's, Adm Greer, Ritter, etc. " I had to Wikipedia this to find out that Clancy has gone back and based this on a real plot. Polish Pope? Assassination by Russkies? WTF. " I love a good cold war yarn, but this one dragged and lost it's footing in more than one place. I did enjoy his foray into psudo-historical fiction. Not bad, but did not grip me as much as his first few books. " I had not read Clancy for a while until I picked this up on a whim. " Not as deep or detailed as the other Clancy/Ryan novels I've read so far. The opposite of a good page turning spy novel. If you edited out about 80% of this book, you might have a good story. I kept waiting for twists to come but no luck- barely managed to finish, very bloated. Sloppy writing & ostentatiously outdated views- lots of cracks about women. " A bit repetitive but Jack Ryan is always a fun character to follow. Of course, all books by Tom Clancy are interesting reads. " My first Tom Clancy book that I read it was very detailed and intriguing. " Believable story about how the Russians tried to kill JPII " - Eric, " It seems that Clancy has gone downhill with Red Rabbit and Bear and the Dragon. How Jack Ryan was involved in a REAL historical event. " I really hope that Clancy writes other books like this one. " Reading through the Jack Ryan series slowly - my "bedtime reading" around everything else on the to read pile.
